"To finish first, you must first finish." Never were these words more aptly applied to a race effort than that of Team Penske at the 1969 24 Hours of Daytona, when their Sunoco-liveried Lola T70 Mk. III GT took on the full might of Porsche's factory team, as well as the vaunted Ford GT40s of John Wyer racing. A true war of attrition, Daytona 1969 saw all five Porsches succumb to mechanical failure, while both Wyer GT40s would soon follow. The Penske Lola, driven by Mark Donohue and Chuck Parsons, would itself be sidelined from the race for nearly two hours with mechanical difficulties of its own, but through sheer determination, the car was repaired and returned to action, taking the race lead in the 22nd hour and hanging on for the win. This underdog victory helped cement Team Penske's place at the top of American motorsport, a position they would never relinquish.

Team Penske's stirring victory at the 1969 Daytona 24 Hours has been commemorated with Tecnomodel's gorgeous 1:18-scale resin replica of the winning Lola T70 Mk. III GT. Resplendent in Sunoco Blue with intricate yellow pinstriping, this model features finely crafted exterior trim pieces such as chrome filler cap and velocity stacks, as well as a spartan-but-accurate cockpit. The Penske Lola T70 Daytona winner by Tecnomodel is worthy of a place in any collection of 1:18-scale historic race cars, but with a limited production of only 150 units, only a lucky few will collectors will acquire one.
