The 1995 running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is remembered chiefly for two things: 17 hours of relentless rain, and the dominance of the McLaren F1 GTR. Already an unstoppable force in the BPR Global GT Series, the F1 GTR's fine handling and relative durability proved ideally suited to Le Mans 95's grueling conditions, with McLarens taking four of the top five finishing positions. Among them was the brilliantly hued #51 of Mach One Racing, piloted by Andy Wallace and the father-and-son team of Derek and Justin Bell. Thanks to heroic wet-weather driving by Wallace and the skills of wily veteran Derek Bell, the Harrods-sponsored F1 GTR would bag an incredible third-place finish despite nursing a broken transmission for the race's final two hours.
