The 1967 running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is rightly remembered as the ultimate battle for supremacy between Ford and Ferrari. Though the winning Ford Mark IV of Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt would become one of the most famous race cars of all time, it was only one of four Mark IVs at Le Mans that year, with Shelby American and Holman & Moody each fielding a pair of the fearsome 7-liter prototypes. Mario Andretti and Lucien Bianchi would partner to drive the #3 Holman & Moody car, and were strong contenders to challenge Gurney and Foyt for the win until an incorrectly mounted brake pad would cause a violent, race-ending collision with Andretti at the wheel. Despite its failure to finish, the #3 Holman & Moody Ford Mk IV is nonetheless an important part of the Ford vs Ferrari war at Le Mans.
For that reason, collectors of Ford GT40 1:43-scale models should consider adding the brilliant #3 Andretti/Bianchi Mark IV by Spark to their miniature fleets. As one would expect from Spark, finish and detail are excellent. Of special note is the lustrous light-copper paint and accurately replicated knock-off race wheels, along with Spark's customarily excellent cockpit detail.
