The 1973 edition of the 24 Hours of Daytona saw the great Hurley Haywood take the first of his five Daytona victories, as well as being the first time that a car bearing the now-iconic colors of Brumos Porsche would visit in the winner's circle. That car, the Porsche 911 RSR 2.8, represented an important step in the history of the 911, as it was the first example of the model to be developed exclusively as a race car (rather than a homologated road car). Visually distinct from roadgoing 911s, the RSR featured enormous flared fenders and a unique fiberglass front bumper that housed an external oil cooler, as well as race-specific suspension settings and 917-based brakes. These advancements made for a formidable racing machine; in the car's debut at Daytona in 1973, Haywood and co-driver Peter Gregg cruised to an easy win, finishing a full 22 laps ahead of the 2nd-placed Ferrari.

Though the RSR that Haywood and Gregg took to victory at Daytona in 1973 has been commemorated with a stunningly detailed 1:18-scale resin replica by Spark. Its crisply rendered Brumos livery is accented by delicate sponsor decals, while inside, its spartan racing cockpit includes an accurate roll cage and fire bottle.
