The first half of the 1971 Sebring 12 Hours was a knockdown drag-out brawl between the factory-backed Gulf-Wyer Porsche 917Ks, the Ferrari 512s of Penske and NART, and Autodelta's lithe Alfa Romeo T33 spyders. The leading cars spent six hours breaking down, crashing into earthen barriers, or simply running into each other, allowing the underdog Porsche 917K of Martini Racing to slip quietly into the lead at the race's halfway mark. From that point on, the silver Porsche cruised six further hours to an almost untroubled victory for drivers Vic Elford and Gerard Larrousse. This historic moment in Porsche racing history has been commemorated by Spark's lustrous 1:18-scale resin replica of the Martini Racing 917K. This lavishly detailed model features crisply rendered Martini striping and a wonderfully accurate cockpit, gearbox and complex exhaust headers.
