Though on very unstable ground financially, Maserati sent a pair of its fearsome 450S roadsters to battle the might of Scuderia Ferrari in the 1957 Mille Miglia, including one for 1955 winners Stirling Moss and co-driver Denis Jenkinson. Their challenge was to be short-lived, however, as the car retired early with brake pedal failure. The tragic subsequent events of the 1957 Mille Miglia, and the resulting permanent cancellation of all open-road races in Italy, would forever render the pairing of Moss/Jenkinson and the Maserati 450S as one of racing's great "what-ifs."

The historic, star-crossed Maserati 450S is now offered as a remarkably detailed 1:43-scale resin replica by Tecnomodel. Fine touches abound in this model, with the famous Frank Costin-designed body accented by dozens of vents, prominent side pipes, and no fewer than three external filler caps.
