The Chevrolet Monza of the 1970s was no one's idea of a high-performance car...no one, that is, except for race car fabricators Lee Dykstra and Horst Kwech. Seeing the compact Monza as the ideal foundation for a silhouette racer in IMSA's new All American GT category, Dykstra and Kwech's DeKon Engineering worked in partnership with General Motors to build a lightweight, tube-frame racer powered by the tried and true small-block Chevy V8. The resulting DeKon Monza quickly proved itself to be more than a match for the dominant Porsches and ascendant BMWs of the day. In the skillful hands of Al Holbert, the Monza would score back-to-back IMSA Camel GT championships in 1976 and 1977, proving that even in the depths of the malaise era, American muscle could still get the job done.
New from Real Art Replicas is this beautiful 1:18-scale resin replica of Al Holbert's 1976 IMSA Camel GT championship-winning DeKon Chevrolet Monza. Its lustrous multi-color finish will be instantly recognizable to knowledgeable fans of sports car racing history, and its wide fenders, aggressive hood bulge and wide race rims and tires will make a strong counterpoint to collections of European racing models.
