Though other production cars had featured turbochargers in the past, the introduction of the Porsche 930 Turbo in 1975 marked the true beginning of the turbo era in high-performance automobiles. Using technology honed with the Turbo RSR Le Mans racers of the previous year, the 930 Turbo boasted a 3-liter forced induction flat-six good for 260 horsepower and a top speed over 150 miles per hour...mind-blowing numbers for the era. It also developed a reputation for "tricky" handling that rewarded expert drivers and punished those with more bravery than skill.

The original Porsche 930 Turbo is now the subject of an excellent 1:64-scale diecast metal replica by Schuco. Featuring an accurately scaled body accented by an early-production "whale tail" spoiler, the model is packed with a surprising amount of detail for a model in this size category, including a charming cockpit and realistic Fuchs polished-lip alloy wheels mounted on real rubber tires.
