Minichamps is one of the oldest, most respected names in the model car business, with a history reaching back to Germany's Danhausen trading company in the 1920s. Initially a sort of general store, Danhausen's focus narrowed over the decades to toys, eventually becoming an exclusive vendor of high-quality white-metal models from industry legends like AMR and Western Models. Under the direction of Danhausen scion Paul Gunter Lang, the company morphed into a producer of precision diecast models in its own right in 1990, first under the banner Paul's Model Art, and then Minichamps by the mid-'90s. With a primary focus on 1:43-scale cars, largely representing German marques, Minichamps has become one of the most widely collected model car companies on the planet.
Earlier this year, Model Citizen became an authorized dealer of Minichamps models. Applying our highly selective curation process to their lineup has meant a slow introduction of Minichamps products to our catalog, but we are delighted to announce our latest addition: the 1963 Porsche 356C Coupe in 1:43 scale. As the final iteration of Porsche's seminal rear-engined sports car, the 356C has been the subject of frequent requests from our many P-car faithful customers. We are happy to declare that their patience has been rewarded with a truly excellent model, even by Minichamps' already high standards. Its chrome trim and carefully rendered interior are gem-like in their presentation, and the choice of a rich Irish Green finish makes for a refreshing change from the seemingly endless parade of silver Porsche models. There is a catch, though: the Irischgrun 356C Coupe will have a limited production run of only 336 pieces worldwide. (Why 336? We're baffled.) That means that U.S.-based collectors will have to fight the ravenous demand of international collectors for Minichamps' products to get their hands on one. Model Citizen's allocation amounts to only 1% of the car's model run, so interested parties are urged to act quickly to add the 356C Coupe to their collection.
